On the Day!

The 2012 65k 4 65 Roses day looks to be as exciting as ever.

Our base camp will have our now famous BBQ serving hot breakfasts and sizzling sausage lunches.  There will be drinks, snacks, and a mobile coffee van.

Bring the kids along!  There will be face painting, mini-golf, and the base camp is in its usual spot in Leichhardt park which is near an excellent children’s playground.

We also expect to see a couple of guests: Nathan Cayliss ex captain of the Parramatta Eels, and  Sam Burgess of the South Sydney Rabbitohs.  They will be along to sign autographs, and perhaps walk a lap of the walk.

You can register on the day for a casual walk, helping us with our goal of raising funds for Cystic Fibrosis, and giving you the opportunity to take in the great views of Iron Cove from the Bay Run track.

It is always a great atmosphere, rain or shine.  Come along to have fun, and cheer on our 65Km endurance walkers as they slog through the day.

Bay Run track gets a makeover!

News on the Bay Run Track.  This is the fifth year we’ve used this track, and those of you who have walked before will remember that the track was of mixed quality: some concrete, some dirt track.  And during the construction of the new bridge we have had to detour along a side street.

This year the Bay Run has had a make-over. It is now all concreted – no more dirt track, and it is now a continuous walk – no more detours.  That should mean no more puddles to traverse if the weather is wet, and means the track is great for bringing kids along, for bikes and scooters.

BYO Poncho!

If you live in Sydney you may have noticed that we have been having some wet weather. Our 65K walk is based in Sydney, and is coming along soon. So putting two and two together – we might find we are walking on a wet day.

Wet weather brings its own challenges, so it is worth getting prepared so that your fundraising attempt at 65Km in a day isn’t rained off!

  • Wet shoes and socks will mean the skin on your feet will become soft and blister easily. Bring plenty of changes of socks, and change often, perhaps even once a lap. A change of shoes will help keep your feet dry and may help to reduce the chance of blisters.
  • Wet clothes can make you cold and make the walk a miserable event. Remember that waling in a raincoat might make you sweat, even if the coat is keeping the rain out. Bring changes of shorts and shirts so you can keep dry.
  • Bring towels to dry yourself when changing.
  • Of course, you need a waterproof coat, or rain poncho or similar.
  • A peaked cap will help to keep the rain off your face. It might not seem a big deal, but small things add over 65Km.

It’s too late to fix on the day, so please plan ahead, pack more gear than you need, and help to keep yourself you dry, warm and walking, and most importantly fundraising, on the day.

Platinum Sponsor Bright & Duggan

Platinum sponsor Bright and Duggan committed both to sponsor and take part in the event. Phil Duggan, Chris Duggan and his wife Jen also committed to doing the full length of the walk.

Phil Duggan said the primary reason his company decided to sponsor this event was the way it encapsulates the sense of family that Bright and Duggan encourages within the company.

“Bright and Duggan is like an extended family. We assist and support each other and felt that the 65kms 4 65 Roses walkathon provided that sense of helping family,” Phil said.
