We are pleased to announce that the winner is – Luke Casey! Congratulations to Luke! 65K committee member Nicci spoke to Luke earlier and he is delighted about his big win. Sorry to all those that missed out this year, we wish we had a car for you all!

A big thank you to Sutton’s motors for donating the car and for once again supporting the event.

A few stats….

• 62 people were eligible to enter the draw
• there were 154 tickets (not bad odds of winning!)
• Luke raised $875 and had 1 entry in the draw!

The car has been won but it’s not too late to raise more much needed funds!

Finally a big thank you to everyone who took part in the event this year, walkers, supporters, volunteers, family, friends and sponsors.

You have until midnight on Thursday 15 March 2012 to make sure all funds are lodged on your MyCause site, including any offline funds you have raised.

• have an eski at base camp which holds cold drinks, sandwiches (consider high energy foods such as cheese & peanut butter) and snacks like trail bars and fruit, and a packet of jelly snakes.
• Be prepared for all weather.  (current forecast is for windy, showery conditions with temps of 23 & very high UV rays)
• Wear a hat & sunnies.
• Have a multiple changes of clothing, especially socks.
• Eat regularly – 65Km walkers will be burning something like 4000 calories during the day.
• Drink regularly to avoid dehydration – if you feel thirsty it’s generally too late!
• Walk at your own pace and keep to the left. Watch out for runners and cyclists.
• Keep yourself entertained.  If you are walking alone for any length of time an mp3 player can help pass the kms. Smart phones can also be useful on the day to keep your friends and supporters updated via facebook or twitter.
• Try and walk with other walkers and chat.
• Enjoy the day as much as possible and be proud of your efforts.

Mark has elequently spoken about his motivation for participating in the endurance event on his MyCause site which is linked here.

Our response: “The organising committee have always held a simple principle. The event will always be cost neutral. The main emphasis is on funds and awareness. Everything that goes into making this event as successful as it is, is provided without cost to the event. This includes but is not exclusive to, the Committee members time, the marketing collateral design and printing, the 65K Website, the Barbie, Food on the day, Marquees, Porta-loo, generators, entertainment on the day, raffle prizes (including the Holden Barina this year) volunteers on the day etc.

The only function where he have an outlay is on funds collected online. 3.9% of funds raised using the online mechanism (offline funds not included) goes to a company called the Giving Network (mycause) PTY LTD.

The Hospital and CFNSW insist that this is a lot less than it would cost them if they were to attempt to administer the event donations themselves.
